It is essential for the early healing process that the following directions are observed during the first two weeks after the operation:
- DO NOT CHEW DIRECTLY ONTO THE IMPLANT
- Avoid excessive talking.
- Only soft or liquid foods may be consumed during the first 6 days to avoid food particles contaminating the wound. Semiliquid (mashed) food may be added to the diet during the second week.
- Smoking and consumption of alcohol should be avoided during this time period.
- If possible, use an elevated headrest (extra pillow) during the first two nights after the operation to reduce swelling.
- If oozing bleeding occurs in the operated jaw, it may usually be stopped by softly biting for 15 minutes on a roll of gauze soaked in saline. If bleeding persists, contact your Oral Surgeon.
- After each meal, rinse the mouth thoroughly with saline solution. Use specific mouth rinses if prescribed.
- Old dentures may NOT be worn until refitting adjustments (relining) have been made. Early denture insertion may jeopardise healing.
- Take the supplied antibiotics as directed (usually 1 capsule 3 times daily for 5 to 10 days).
- Take analgesic tablets as necessary for pain.
- If in doubt about healing, please contact Dr Huang’s office. In a medical emergency, Dr Huang can be contacted directly.
